BIRTH TOTEMS
By CinnamonMoon
I thought I'd share some of
my Totem notes with you. Birth Totems have been found in various
cultures throughout the world. These are the animals related
to your birth date, and at times are
given as surnames. They are said to influence or rule over the
dates given for birth or events in
life. In his book "Totems" Bobby Lake Thom relates
these animals to the Zodiac signs we're all
familiar with and compares them to indigenous teachings as well
as Christianity through the
Saints. As you will see, there are variations and similarities
among them.

Niplan:
What if you were born on a cusp?
CinnamonMoon:
I'd say with these layouts that the cusp isn't defined as it
would be in regular astrology. The dates
are firm. See how they end and start up? There's no overlapping.
Niplan:
But if the whole system is based off regular astrology using
dates, then there has to be overlap.
CinnamonMoon:
Niplan, I am not an astrologer, but the lines seem clearly defined
here with no spillage. I know
that the Native American zodiac is based on lunar cycles, not
solar. But thats all I can address. Sorry.
Mouse:
I'm stubborn as the Bull (and am easily triggered by a red flag
too, LOL), loyal as the Dog *wag
wag*, and busy as the Beaver always plugging away at its dam.
All three do typify me very well.
2CrowWoman:
Niplan - not all astrologers believe in cusps anymore. I don't
use them myself. Personally, I've
tended to find people still are the sign they are in. Someone
born in the last degree of a sign still
is of that sign, but that's just my opinion. A lot of astrologers
would disagree with me.
